NKF offers several ways to volunteers using your professional expertise. These opportunities include KEEPs, Kidney Wellness Screening and health fairs.
Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP)
KEEP is a free kidney health screening program designed to raise awareness about kidney disease among high risk individuals and provide free testing and educational information, so that kidney disease and its complications can be prevented or delayed.
KEEP Certification Program
The National Kidney Foundation of Northern California is offering a certification program to train people to organize and run the KEEP Program. Health care experience is preferred but not required. As a Volunteer Coordinator your role includes seeking a venue, recruiting volunteers and working in collaboration with the NKF Program Manager to gain necessary supplies and equipment.
KEEP Technical Volunteer
At the KEEP clinic blood and urine samples are collected from participants and screened for kidney disease. Once results are received and logged the participant has the opportunity to speak with a physician or an NP to discuss their results. Technical volunteers have the qualifications to draw blood, urine and or provide consultations.
KEEP General Volunteer
Before the participant can get screen they must complete a comprehensive medical history questionnaire that determines if they qualify to participate. A general volunteer helps with registration and works with participants to complete questionnaires. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to sign up.
Kidney Wellness Screenings (KWS)
KWS take place at larger health fairs and provide a blood pressure, height and weight analysis. The participant also has the opportunity to fill out a KEEP prescreening questionnaire that determines if they are eligible to participate. Technical volunteers provide blood pressure, height and weight screenings. General volunteers help with education material and with the KEEP prescreening questionnaires.
Health Fairs
NKF participates in a variety of health fairs throughout Northern California.
